Morphology
Usually a clumping palm, although can be found as a single trunk. It has 7 to 12 leaves 0.4 to 1 m long. Inflorescences grow among or below the leaves. Fruits are ovoid and black.

Cold hardy to –7ºC.

Grows in deep shade near little streams in an acid sandy soil. Does not tolerate transplanting well.
