Origin
Northeast of Australia.
Habitat
Rainforest and forest at high altitudes (800 to 1600 meters). Rather common.
Morphology
A solitary or clumping palm. The trunk is up to 2-3 m tall, slender, dark green, unarmed, with annular rings and a crownshaft. The pinnate leaves have a delicate appearance. Inflorescence growing bewteen the base leaves. A very beautiful fruit, hanging in simple spikes, bright red when ripe.
Climate
Tropical and subtropical, but likes cool nights. Can adapt to warm temperate climates.
Germination
Small leaves germinate irregularly in 3-5 months when fresh, and young plants grow slowly. Can be propagated by suckers.
Growing
For good results, water well, especially during the dry seasons, give plenty of fertilizers and place in shade. Appropriate as indoor palm, since has low light requirements and is not very demanding.
