Named after Ambrose Coletto Alejandro Verschaffelt, a Belgian horticulturist of the 19th century.
Origin
Rodriguez Island (Mascarene Islands).
Habitat
Cliffs and coastal ravines.
Morphology
Young leaves have a yellowish margin. Adult plants are however difficult to differentiated from the other species of this genus.
Climate
Tropical to warm temperate. This palm has tolerated temperatures down to –2.2ºC (28ºF, USDA Zone 9b).
Germination
Germination takes place in 2 to 4 months.
Growing
Tolerates full sun from young. Needs a good drainage.
