Origin
Australia (Cape York Peninsula and North East of Queensland) and New Guinea (Torres Strait Islands).
Habitat
Prefers open forests, pastures, savannah and sporadically rainforests, sometimes on areas with seasonal flooding. Not endangered.
Morphology
A solitary palm, up to 2 to 10 m tall, the shorter of its genus. Leaves dark green. Petioles with curved spines. Flowers yellow. Fruit globular to ovoid, blackish blue.
Climate
Tropical to warm temperate.
Germination
Seeds can take as long as 6 months to germinate.
Growing
Requires full sun and average watering. Drought tolerant.
