Habitat

Near streams and even in marshy areas.

Morphology

The trunk is usually blackish and may have prominent scars of dead leaves in spiral. Leaf lamina are folded and almost round. Globular green fruits.

Climate

This palm has tolerated temperatures down to –6.7ºC (20ºF, USDA Zone 9a).

Growing

Needs full sun, and lots of water. Tropical to warm temperate.
