Origin
Madagascar.
Habitat
Forest transition areas between moist and dry soils at the southeast of Madagascar. Threatened in habitat, although it is widely cultivated for its spectacular shape.
Morphology
A solitary palm, up to 10 m tall. Can be easily distinguished by its triangular trunk.
Climate
Can adapt to different climates, from tropical to warm temperate. Some cold tolerance. This palm has tolerated temperatures down to –1.2ºC (29.9ºF, USDA Zone 9b).

Growing
Very popular in cultivation. Prefers sun or light shade. A relatively fast grower.
