Curiosities
In Haiti the leaves are used to make seats. Named after the Swiss collector Dr. E. L. Ekman. Also Pseudophoenix ekmanii and Copernicia ekmanii have been named after him.
Origin
Cuba and Island of Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic).
Habitat
Dry srcub forest on rocky limestone hills or near the sea.
Morphology
A slender trunk up to 5 m tall. Fruit rounded, green to dark yellow.
Climate
Tropical.
Germination
Seeds germinate easily.
Growing
Requires full sun, excellent drainage, and tropical temperatures. Drought and salt tolerant.
