Origin
Cuba (Camagüey, Las Villas, Oriente).
Habitat
Savannah and forests at low altitude.
Morphology.
A smooth tall trunk up to 20 m, columnar and sometimes with a swelling. Inflorescences longer than leaves. Fruits globular, sometimes slightly ovoid.
Climate
Tropical. This palm has tolerated temperatures down to –2.2ºC (28ºF, USDA Zone 9b).
