The trunk makes a hard and time-resistant wood. In Cuba it is used for poles and fences. Leaves are used to make hats and baskets.

Savannah and forests.
Morphology
A tall and columnar trunk, sometimes with a swelling, solitary but rarely with young shoots in its base. Leaves petioles elongated. Inflorescences longer than leaves. Globular black fruits.
