Origin
Southeast of Brazil (Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, Goias).
Habitat
Grows in the scrubby Brazilian vegetation known as Cerrado.
Morphology
A small palm with a subterranean trunk up to 1 m tall, and leaves 1 m long. The petioles are spiny, and the inflorescence is glaucous, with smooth spathes. Fruits are ovoid, yellow, around 20 mm long.

Tropical to temperate.

Needs a sunny and well-drained position.
