The tallest palm of its genus, up to 15 m. It has a bushy shape, with lots of stems, which can reach 10 m of width.

Requires shady conditions when young, but will take full sun as an adult. The most cold tolerant of the bamboo Chamaedorea. Likes plenty of water, but also needs good drainage.
