Named ‘oblongata’ for the oblong shape of leaves.
Origin
From Mexico to Nicaragua.
Habitat
Grows in shade, in forests at low altitude, often on limestone soils.
Morphology.
A slender single trunk, up to 3 m tall and only 2 cm in diameter, with prominent annular rings, usually erect although can also creep on soil surface. Three to 8 leaves. Erect inflorescences, with persistent petals. Black ovoid fruits. A very attractive palm.
Climate
Can be grown in warm temperate climate, but does its best in subtropical or tropical.

Growing
Good as indoor plant. Needs a warm, sheltered and moist position. Suitable even for a warm temperate climate.
