South America.
Habitat
Lowland premountainous areas, degraded forests and dry savannah.
Morphology
A single trunk up to 16 m. Inflorescences highly branched and thin. Fruits are oval, yellow to orange.
Climate
Tropical to subtropical, although it is tested in Mediterranean coastal areas. This palm has tolerated temperatures down to –2.2ºC (28ºF, USDA Zone 9b).

Rather new in cultivation. Needs sun to partial shade and regular watering.
