Habitat
Morphology
This palm has a naked, smooth, slender, grey trunk around 12 m tall and 16 cm in diameter, and large, robust, nearly circular fan-shaped leaves. Petioles are long and strong, ending in a small, triangular hastula. Fruits have a coffee bean shape (not kidney-shaped) and are yellowish-brown or bluish-black.
Climate
This palm has tolerated temperatures down to –13.9ºC (7ºF, USDA Zone 7b).

Requires a rich, loamy but well drained soil. Young plants are best grown under some shade.
