Habitat
Morphology
Some consider T. wagnerianus to simply be a variety of T. fortunei, but this species has smaller and more rigid leaves, more resistant to wind. More appreciated as ornamental plant. Apart from this, it’s very similar to T. fortunei and easily hybridises with it. However some differences in the flower exist, giving some reason to those that consider it a different species. Fruits and seeds typical of this genus, black and kidney-shaped.
Climate
Subtropical and temperate. One of the most cold-hardy palms, similar to T. fortunei.
Germination
This palm has tolerated temperatures down to –12ºC (10.5ºF, USDA Zone 8a).
Growing
Frost, wind, and drought tolerant. Slow growing during the first years.
