Morphology
A small, multiple-trunked palm. The slender trunks have annular rings. Usually not more than 2 leaflets at each side of the rachis, often with small holes on their base, broad, cuneate, with truncate or irregularly toothed apex. Inflorescence growing among the leaves, creamy or yellowish in colour. Fruits purple-black, containing a single seed.

Tropical, subtropical.
Germination
The small seeds quickly germinate when fresh.
Growing
Requires a sheltered, shady, and moist position on rich and well-drained soils.
