Undergrowth of rainforests.
Morphology
A clumping palm, the slender trunks covered with dark, closely clasping fibres. Palmate leaves, divided in numerous, narrow, sharp-pointed segments. Only male flowers present, growing between the base of leaves on the top part of the palm. Fruit unknown.
Climate
Tropical, subtropical. This palm has tolerated temperatures down to –6.1ºC (21ºF, USDA Zone 9a).
Germination
This species must be vegetatively propagated by suckers.
Growing
Can be grown in shade to full sun, although prefers a fresh shade.
