Origin
Mexico.
Habitat
Common in West Mexico, in forests, from sea level up to 600 m, and in savannah.
Morphology
A grey, smooth, single trunk up to 15-20 m tall and 30-40 cm in diameter, covered by the fibrous leaf petioles. Dark green, highly costapalmate leaves that form a big crown. The arched inflorescence is as long as leaves. Fruits are globular, and green-brown to black.
Climate
Tropical and subtropical, but can also grow in warm temperate. This palm has tolerated temperatures down to –6.7ºC (20ºF, USDA Zone 9a).

Growing
Highly resistant to all kind of soils and also to saline environments. Tolerant to temperatures down to 6.7°C. A quite fast grower.
