Morphology
A single trunk, with long, black spines when young. No crownshaft present. Leaves are simple and undivided, but when damaged by the wind they have a pinnate appearance. Leaves deeply notched at the apex. Fruits reddish.
Climate
Tropical moist.
Germination
The small seeds germinate easily when fresh, but the quickly lose their germinating potential.
Growing
Requires high temperatures, cold sensitive. Needs partial shade and a moist soil, especially when young. Slow growing.
