Curiosities
Fruits are edible, have a sweet taste. Acaulis means without trunk.
Origin
Birmania, Nepal and North of India.
Habitat
From 350 to 1500 m in scrubland, savannas and in pine forests.
Morphology
A trunkless (acaulescent) palm, sometimes with a bulbous trunk only up to 10 cm tall. Leaves up to 2 m long, dark green in colour. Inflorescences at soil level, hidden between the leaves. Ovoid, darkish blue fruits.
Climate
Subtropical to tropical.
Germination
Seeds germinate fast, usually in 1 to 3 months.
Growing
A very tough and rustic palm, which can grow in many different climates and conditions. Loves sun.
